Mosquito Repellent is now Available as a Medicaid Benefit

Texas Medicaid now covers certain mosquito repellent products as a Medicaid benefit for the prevention of Zika virus.  Zika can cause severe birth defects in unborn children whose mothers are infected while pregnant. Because there is not a vaccine to prevent the disease or medicine to treat it, it is important for women to use repellent to protect themselves and unborn babies.

Learning About STAR Kids

Starting this fall, Superior HealthPlan (Superior) will provide health care for children and youth who get disability-related Medicaid through a new program called STAR Kids. This program is for children ages 20 and younger. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will be offering free information sessions for families so they can learn about the new program.

Potential HIPAA Breach Notice to Superior HealthPlan STAR, STAR+PLUS, STAR+PLUS MMP and Medicare Advantage (DSNP) Members

Important Notice

Superior HealthPlan learned October 8, 2015 that a former employee downloaded files with members’ protected health information to a personal device. This was against company policy. It happened between March 8, 2015 and March 17, 2015. The employee left the company on March 18, 2015. The information taken included members’ names, Medicaid IDs, Medicare IDs and Superior member ID. In some instances, addresses, dates of birth, and social security numbers were also taken. No credit card or financial information was shared.
