New Therapy Program: Easier Patient Referrals for Therapy Services

Superior HealthPlan is excited to announce a new program that will make it easier for you to access therapy services for your patients. Effective March 1, 2018, Superior HealthPlan will use Care Options for Kids (COFK) as the dedicated provider for therapy evaluations and the preferred provider for therapy treatment for Superior STAR, STAR Health, STAR+PLUS and CHIP patients who are:
- 3 years of age and older (including adults, but excluding STAR+PLUS Nursing Facility and STAR Health MDCP members)
- Assigned to the Travis or Central Service Delivery Area*
COFK provides physical, speech and occupational therapy services to children and adults that are tailored to meet your patient’s individual needs. When you refer patients who meet the above criteria to COFK, you will not be required to submit a prior authorization request to Superior, thus reducing your administrative burden and making it easier for you to access evaluations and services, if appropriate, for your patients.
Patients receiving treatment through COFK will be provided with online and phone support and will have access through a dedicated Superior toll free number operating from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays.
If you are referring Superior patients for home or clinic-based therapy services, submit requests for new evaluations, re-evaluations and treatment for therapy services made on or after March 1, 2018, to:

All provider requests for evaluations, re-evaluations and treatment for therapy services made before March 1, 2018, should be submitted according to Superior’s current authorization process. If a patient is re-evaluated and approved to receive more therapy services, they may choose to start receiving their services from COFK without requiring a prior authorization. They can also choose to opt out of using COFK for any reason and choose to receive therapy treatment from another provider in the Superior network by calling 1-855-742-0122 or writing to Superior Member Services, 5900 E. Ben White Blvd., Austin, TX 78741. If, after evaluation by COFK, the member chooses to use another provider other than COFK, their treatment services will not require a prior authorization.
