On April 22, 2024, UnitedHealth Group issued a press release, providing an update on the Change Healthcare cybersecurity incident that occurred on Feb. 21, 2024. Given the size of the data impacted, the investigation to determine whose data is impacted is expected to take several months. UnitedHealth Group believes this situation will impact “a substantial proportion of people in America” and is offering immediate credit monitoring and identity protection services, as well as a dedicated contact center to address questions. STAR+PLUS: Contract Award Updates

On September 1, 2024, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will implement a new contract for STAR+PLUS. Per the new contract, Superior HealthPlan will continue providing STAR+PLUS Medicaid coverage in the following Service Delivery Areas (SDAs), also known as regions:

  • Central Medicaid Rural Service Area*
  • Dallas*
  • Hidalgo*
  • Lubbock*
  • Nueces*
  • West Medicaid Rural Service Area*

Superior will also start serving STAR+PLUS members in the Travis SDA.

Effective September 1, 2024, Superior will no longer provide STAR+PLUS coverage to members in the Bexar SDA. This includes the following counties:

  • Atascosa
  • Bandera
  • Bexar
  • Comal
  • Guadalupe
  • Kendall
  • Medina
  • Wilson

IMPORTANT: Superior will continue providing STAR, CHIP, STAR Health, STAR Kids, MMP and Medicare coverage in the Bexar SDA.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: For members who live in the Dallas, Hidalgo, or Nueces SDAs.

Superior HealthPlan members in Dallas, Hidalgo and Nueces do not need to take any action to remain a Superior HealthPlan member. They can continue receiving their STAR+PLUS Medicaid coverage from Superior.

Members in Dallas, Hidalgo and Nueces SDAs may have received a letter from HHSC. The letter let them know that they do not need to take any action to remain a Superior HealthPlan member. Members can disregard the letter.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: For members who live in the Bexar SDA.

On September 1, 2024, HHSC will start a new contract for STAR+PLUS.

As part of this new contract, Superior will no longer provide STAR+PLUS Medicaid coverage to members in the Bexar SDA. This includes the following counties:

  • Atascosa
  • Guadalupe
  • Bandera
  • Kendall
  • Bexar
  • Medina
  • Comal
  • Wilson

Superior will continue to serve STAR+PLUS members in the Bexar SDA through August 31, 2024. These members can continue to receive their health coverage from Superior and their providers through August 31, 2024.

  • Members in the Bexar SDA must select a new health plan by July 10 if they remain eligible for STAR+PLUS Medicaid.
  • Their new plan will start on September 1, 2024.
  • They should look for a packet of information from HHSC on how to select a new health plan.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: For members who live in the Lubbock, Central, or West SDAs.

There is nothing members in Lubbock, Central, or West SDAs need to do to remain a Superior STAR+PLUS member.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: For members who live in the Travis SDA.

Superior will provide STAR+PLUS coverage to members who live in the Travis SDA, which includes the following counties, starting 9/1/2024:

Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Travis, Williamson
