Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Prophylaxis Summer Season Changes for Select Regions
Date: 09/02/22
Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) will close the 2022 Summer Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) season in select regions on September 1, 2022. These regions include: 1, 2, 4, 9, and 10. Regions 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11 will remain open until further notice. For additional information regarding start and end dates for all regions, please refer to the HHS Summer 2022 RSV Season Schedule.
HHS based this decision on RSV testing data reviewed for the 11 public health service regions, and recommendations from the Texas RSV Taskforce. To align with HHS guidance, Superior will be ending any active prior authorizations for Synagis® for members in regions 1, 2, 4, 9 and 10, effective September 1, 2022. As the season has ended, claims for Synagis® will no longer adjudicate pursuant to the end of the season per Texas VDP guidance.
HHS will continue to monitor RSV testing data and coordinate with the Texas Pediatric Society’s RSV Task Force for future regional changes. It is currently unknown when the fall/winter traditional RSV season will start for specific regions based on the unusual pattern of RSV activity observed this year. However, HHS will communicate additional regional changes as this information becomes available.
