Keeping Kids Healthy

Date: 07/27/22

Children change and grow quickly, and it is important for them to see the doctor for a checkup every year. For CHIP members, this is called a well child checkup and for STAR members, a Texas Health Steps checkup.

At the appointment the doctor will make sure your child is healthy. They will:

  • Check your child’s height, weight, vision, hearing and more.
  • Make sure your child is current on their immunizations. These are shots that help protect kids from diseases like polio and measles.
  • Share developmental milestones and what to expect before your next visit.
  • Look for developmental delays or disabilities that could be addressed with early treatment.
  • Offer information about additional health and community resources.

Staying current on checkups and shots is important to the health of those you love. For more information, visit CDC Vaccines & Immunizations.
