Asthma triggers are things that make your asthma worse or cause it to flare up. It is important to know your triggers and avoid them if possible.
Some asthma triggers include:
- Allergens. This can include indoor allergens like dust or pet dander or outdoor allergens like pollen from trees and weeds.
- To help with indoor allergens, dust often with a damp cloth and vacuum frequently. Wearing a face mask can be helpful.
- To help with outdoor allergens, check out pollen counts in your area and try to say indoors when the levels are high. You should also change clothes and shower when you come indoors if the levels are high.
- Some types of exercise. Talk to your doctor about medications that can help you manage your asthma while still being able to exercise.
- Health conditions. Colds, coughs and flu can make asthma worse.
- Irritants such as tobacco or other strong odors. Avoid smoking, using fireplaces or using air fresheners.
