Tools for Your Practice During COPD Awareness Month

Date: 11/02/23

Superior HealthPlan would like to remind healthcare providers about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) awareness month this November. The COPD Assessment Test (CAT) is a questionnaire for people with COPD, designed to measure the impact this disease has on a person's life and how to keep record of these changes over time. The CAT is also crucial in collecting data for research that can be accessed from the CAT for Healthcare Professionals/Researchers website. The CAT is simple to administer, and aims to help clinicians, with their patients, better manage COPD.

With a better understanding of your patients symptoms, discussions can become easier to see if they are getting the greatest benefit from their current treatment plan. As a result, you can become more informed when discussing and making decisions with your patients ensuring that their health status is up to date. The CAT is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace COPD treatments, but it can help you monitor their effects.

The CAT is a multi-language tool that has been translated and validated for use in more than 50 languages. Only approved translations of the CAT questionnaire should be used to ensure the validity and measurement properties are maintained. To access the questionnaire and more details on validated translations please visit catestonline.org.

For further details on the development of CAT, its use in clinical practice and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) please see the CAT User Guide & FAQ (PDF).
