Changes to Mosquito Repellent Benefit Begin June 1
Date: 03/14/22
On May 31, 2022, Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) will stop using the Texas Medicaid Standing Order for Mosquito Repellent. This Standing Order currently allows pharmacies to dispense mosquito repellent under the terms specified for people enrolled in Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Healthy Texas Women (HTW). HHS has extended the effective date of the current Standing Order to May 31, 2022, to ensure Medicaid-enrolled providers have adequate notice regarding upcoming changes to the mosquito repellent benefit.
Effective June 1, 2022, pharmacies must obtain a prescription from a Medicaid-enrolled provider to dispense mosquito repellent products. The mosquito repellant benefit will follow the Texas Vendor Drug Program formulary for covered products.
