Developmental Screening in the First Three Years of Life (DEV) Measure
Date: 11/19/25
Superior HealthPlan would like to inform providers on Developmental Screening in the First Three Years of Life (DEV) measure. This measure includes three age-specific indicators assessing whether children are screened using a standardized screening tool by 12 months preceding or on their first, second, or third birthday.
Providers can help support the timely completion of the DEV measure by using acceptable standardized tools, accurate medical record documentation, and appropriate CPT code on claims.
Required elements of DEV measure include:
- Use of the state approved standardized screening tools:
- Ages and Stages Questionnaire – 3rd Edition (ASQ-3).
- Parents’ Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS) – Birth to 8 years.
- Parent’s Evaluation of Developmental Status – Developmental Milestones (PEDS-DM).
- Survey of Well-Being in Young Children (SWYC)
- Medical record documentation requirement:
- Document screening completion for developmental, behavioral, and social delays using a validated standardized tool.
- Document in the note on which standardized developmental screening tool was used, the date of screening and evidence that the tool was completed and score.
- Claims and CPT Code:
- Provide timely submission of claims and code related to developmental screening.
- Developmental screening with use of the ASQ, ASQ:SE, PEDS or SWYC is reported using procedure code 96110.
