IMPORTANT: Authorization Extensions Available for Texas Medicaid/CHIP Enrolled Flood Victims through 09/29/25

Date: 09/12/25

Superior HealthPlan would like to inform providers that they can request a 90-day extension of an existing authorization through September 29, 2025, for members impacted by the Summer 2025 Texas flooding. This accommodation is intended to extend the timeframe for previously authorized health care services that require additional time for access to, or provision of Superior Medicaid (STAR, STAR Health, STAR Kids, STAR+PLUS), CHIP covered medically necessary health care services.

The opportunity to request an extension of an existing authorization applies to all state plan services requiring recertification, including acute care and Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) such as personal assistance services, personal care services, Community First Choice, private duty nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapies, and day activity and health services. Providers must include in the authorization extension request that the need for the extension is a result of the Summer 2025 Texas flooding.

Extension requests for Texas flood victims cannot be requested for authorizations for one-time services, pharmacy prior authorizations or nursing facility services.
