How to Eat Healthy and Manage Your Diabetes Around the Holidays

Date: 12/16/22

November was national diabetes awareness month, and with the holidays coming up, it is important to remember how to eat healthy when it comes to managing diabetes.

Here are a few tips and tricks we’ve gathered from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to help you eat right this holiday season.

  1. Eat close to your regular mealtimes to keep your blood sugar in check. If your meal is served late, have a snack before and eat less at mealtime.
  2. Don’t skip meals to save up for a feast.
  3. If you’re invited to a party, bring a healthy dish along. Non-starch vegetables like broccoli, spinach and green beans can be delicious additions to a meal, as well as good options for diabetics.
  4. Count carbs. This will help you keep track of how many carbs you’ve eaten. Choosing the right serving size of carb filled foods will help you maintain a balanced blood sugar.
  5. Savor a small serving of your favorite treats or sweets. Don’t over do it, but don’t leave it out either!
