Effective 7/1: CHIP Co-payments Waived for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Services

Date: 05/31/22

To assist families in accessing care during the COVID-19 response, Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) waived office visit co-payments for all CHIP members. To comply with the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equality Act (Pub. L. 110-343), HHS is removing CHIP copayment requirements indefinitely for Mental Health (MH) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) outpatient office visits and residential treatment services from its policies.

Effective July 1, 2022, CHIP providers will be prohibited from collecting co-payments for office visits and residential treatment services for mental health conditions and substance use disorders.
