2022 - 2023 Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Traditional Season Changes

Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) will close the 2022 – 2023 Traditional Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) season in all regions on March 1, 2023. For additional information regarding start and end dates for all regions, please refer to the HHS 2022-23 RSV Season Schedule.

HHS based this decision on the Texas RSV task force and HHS Office of the Medical Director recommendation due to the continued decrease in RSV test positivity below the threshold for two consecutive weeks. Effective March 1, 2023, Superior HealthPlan will be ending any active prior authorizations for Synagis®, in accordance with HHS guidance. Pharmacy claims for Synagis® will no longer adjudicate March 1, 2023, pursuant to Texas Vendor Drug Program (VDP) guidance.

HHS will continue to monitor RSV testing data across the state and notify the public about any updates needed to access Synagis® prophylaxis treatment.
