Asthma Management

Date: 05/30/23

Asthma is a disease that affects your lungs. It can cause episodes of breathlessness, chest tightness and wheezing. The more you know about asthma, the better you and your loved ones can manage living with the disease.

The most common factors that put you at risk of developing asthma include:

  • Having a parent with asthma.
  • Having an allergy condition.
  • Having a respiratory infection as a child.
  • Being exposed to chemicals or irritants.

If you have asthma, you have it all the time. You can also have asthma attacks. Attacks make it harder to breathe and are caused by asthma triggers. According to the American Lung Association, triggers can include pollen, tobacco smoke and pets.

Superior members have access to our Disease Management program that can help you control your asthma. This program will get you or your child connected with a certified respiratory therapist and help you get answers to any questions you may have.

CHIP, STAR and STAR Kids members can also participate in the Asthma Care Management program and get an allergy-free mattress cover and pillowcase once every 2 years. Visit SuperiorHealthPlan.com/VAS or call Member Services for more information about the benefits available to you.
