2023-2024 RSV and Synagis® Prior Authorization

The Texas Pediatric Society's Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) task force detected a trend of positive tests for RSV in lower south Texas. As a result, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will start the 2023 – 2024 monthly prophylaxis for RSV on October 2, 2023, for region 11.

HHSC will open the following RSV regions as listed below:

  • October 16, 2023: Regions 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8
  • November 1, 2023: Regions 1, 2, 9, and 10

Please note the following important information:

  • The 2023-24 RSV Season Schedule is broken out by Texas public health regions.
  • Prescribing providers must prescribe Synagis® to infants meeting the criteria described on the American Academy of Pediatrics website. 
    • Criteria has been updated to include questions around Beyfortus™ administration during the current RSV season.
  • The option to purchase and bill through Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnerships is not available this season.
  • Other regions will not be opened at this time. HHSC will continue working with the Texas Pediatric Society's task force to determine the RSV prophylaxis schedule for the other regions and will provide additional instruction.
  • Please check the 2023-24 RSV Season Schedule for any additional updates throughout season.
