Is Your Child Due for a Checkup?
Date: 06/29/26
Checkups help support your child’s health and wellness over time. Their doctor can catch concerns early and keep children on track as they grow.
Here are a few reasons why checkups are so important:
- Preventive health: Your child can get recommended health screenings and vaccines at their appointment. Screenings can help identify health issues early, and vaccines can protect your child from serious diseases. Talk with your child’s doctor about what screenings or vaccines your child may need. You can also visit the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website to learn more about which vaccines are recommended for specific age groups.
- Tracking growth: Because checkups start when your child is a newborn and continue regularly throughout their childhood, their doctor can track their milestones between each visit. For example, you’ll be able to see how tall they’ve gotten since their previous visit. The doctor will also track milestones related to how your child is learning or interacting with others.
- Discussing questions or concerns: These visits are a great time to ask questions or raise any concerns you may have about your child’s health. This could include any questions or concerns you have about your child’s sleep, eating habits or overall development.
- Building a relationship with their doctor: Children should have well-child visits from the time they are born through age 20. Having the same primary care doctor throughout this time can help build trust between your child and their doctor. It can also help them feel more confident to take charge of their health as they enter adulthood.
