Authorizations for Members who Have Transitioned from Another MCO to Superior
Date: 10/23/26
Medicaid members can frequently transfer between Managed Care Organizations (MCO) which can cause challenges for providers relative to continued delivery of care, authorization requests and claim billing. Specific to authorizations, Superior HealthPlan encourages providers to utilize Superior's Secure Provider Portal to request new and verify existing authorizations for new and existing patients.
For members who have transitioned from another MCO to Superior, after receipt and processing of Medicaid enrollment files from HHSC:
- Superior receives active and open authorization records for newly enrolled Superior members.
- Superior works quickly to enter these authorization records into Superior's medical management system.
- To ensure continuity of care for your Superior enrolled members, please continue to provide services prior authorized by the member's former MCO in the same quantity, scope and duration until the end of the current authorization period, or until Superior has evaluated and assessed the member and issued or denied a new authorization.
