STAR+PLUS Contract Award Updates

On September 1, 2024, Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will implement a new contract for STAR+PLUS. Per the new contract, Superior HealthPlan will continue providing STAR+PLUS Medicaid coverage in the following Service Delivery Areas (SDAs), also known as regions:
- Dallas
- Hidalgo
- Lubbock
- Medicaid Rural Service Area (MRSA) Central
- Medicaid Rural Service Area (MRSA) West
- Nueces
Superior will also start serving STAR+PLUS members in the Travis SDA.
Effective September 1, 2024, Superior will no longer provide STAR+PLUS coverage to members in the Bexar SDA. This includes the following counties:
- Atascosa
- Bandera
- Comal
- Guadalupe
- Kendall
- Medina
- Wilson
IMPORTANT: Superior will continue providing STAR, CHIP, STAR Health, STAR Kids, MMP and Medicare coverage in the Bexar SDA.
Is there any action for your Superior STAR+PLUS patients?
Superior will be communicating this update to members in the next few months. We will keep you informed once our member outreach begins.
Currently, no additional action is needed and your Superior STAR+PLUS patients do not need to take any action to remain a Superior STAR+PLUS member.
Superior STAR+PLUS members in the Bexar SDA can continue their Superior coverage through August 31, 2024. We want to ensure Superior STAR+PLUS members in your panel continue to receive the quality care from providers they know and trust.
HHSC will let STAR+PLUS members in the Bexar SDA know when they need to choose a new health plan.
We ask that you remind your STAR+PLUS patients to:
- Check their mail for information from HHSC and respond accordingly.

- Update any address or phone number change with HHSC by calling 2-1-1 or visiting YourTexasBenefits.com.
