Living Well with Diabetes

Having diabetes can make it harder to take care of your health. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important to help manage diabetes and keep your blood glucose levels in check.
A few ways to live a healthy lifestyle that can help you manage diabetes are:
- Get enough sleep. Quality sleep can help improve mood, energy level and even help manage blood glucose levels.
- Create a healthy meal plan. Dairy, fruits and non-starchy vegetables are a good place to start for a healthy diet. You can still enjoy all your favorite foods, but you may just need to adjust how often you eat them or how much you are eating. Learn more about healthy food choices.
- Get regular exercise. If you are new to exercising, get started just by adding walking for 30 minutes per day to your daily routine.
- Maintain a healthy weight. This goes hand in hand with your diet and exercise. Talk to your doctor about what a healthy weight is for you and make a plan to use diet and exercise to meet this goal.
